چکیده

One of my first questions as a newly elected member of COPP (NJSNA’s Congress on Policy and Practice) was WHEN did it start and what happened to the Cabinet on Practice? The answer was in the archives at NJSNA Headquarters; so I journeyed there for a look into the past. If you remember our 100th Anniversary celebration in 2002, then you know that NJSNA was incorporated in 1902. Yet, the first mention I could find about something similar to COPP was in 1963; there was a Committee on Professional Nursing Practice. The October 1967 New Jersey Nurse stated the following about the work of this Committee:

Standard and increased-dose BEACOPP chemotherapy compared with COPP-ABVD for advanced Hodgkin's disease.

BACKGROUND Faced with unsatisfactory results of treatment for advanced Hodgkin's disease, we investigated three combinations of chemotherapy. METHODS From 1993 to 1998, 1201 eligible patients 15 to 65 years of age who had newly diagnosed Hodgkin's disease in unfavorable stage IIB or IIIA or stage IIIB or IV were randomly assigned to receive eight cycles of cyclophosphamide, vincristine, proca...

CoPP induces differentiation of monocytic THP-1 cells into macrophage-like cells. CoPP induced a marked growth inhibition with a slight reduction in viability, and increased adhesion and spreading

Cobalt protoporphyrin (CoPP) is a potent and effective metalloporphyrin inducer of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) activity in many tissues. Here, we report that CoPP induces differentiation of monocytic THP-1 cells into macrophage-like cells. CoPP induced a marked growth inhibition with a slight reduction in viability, and increased adhesion and spreading of THP-1 cells. However, other protoporphyrins...

Role of Bach1 and Nrf2 in up-regulation of the heme oxygenase-1 gene by cobalt protoporphyrin.

Heme oxygenase (HO) catalyzes the conversion of heme to biliverdin with the release of iron and carbon monoxide. HO-1 is highly inducible by a large number of physical and chemical factors. CoPP is known to be a potent and effective inducer of HO-1 activity in many tissues. Here we report that CoPP up-regulates HO-1 via Bach1 and Nrf2 in human liver cells. CoPP did not influence hepatic Bach1 o...

Protective Effect of Heme Oxygenase-1 on High Glucose-Induced Pancreatic β-Cell Injury

BACKGROUND Glucose toxicity that is caused by chronic exposure to a high glucose concentration leads to islet dysfunction and induces apoptosis in pancreatic β-cells. Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) has been identified as an anti-apoptotic and cytoprotective gene. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether HO-1 up-regulation when using metalloprotophyrin (cobalt protoporphyrin, CoPP) could pro...

Prolonged retention of the anorectic cobalt protoporphyrin in the hypothalamus and the resulting expression of Fos.

The anorectic cobalt protoporphyrin (CoPP) is known to elicit short-term hypophagia and long-term weight loss through unknown mechanisms in the brains of experimental animals. The goal of this work was to determine 1) if the prolonged duration of action of CoPP is related to its prolonged retention within the brain; and 2) with the use of immunohistochemical detection of Fos, the product of the...
